Transmission range and output sensors failed inside the molded leadframe, triggering P0720 and P0722. Ford program 26N04 denied coverage because the codes were not on the approved list. The violent downshifting in my truck has made it undriveable and I am unable to go to work and I am being treated horribly.

The contact stated that the failure was persistent. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V237000 (Power Train); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The manufacturer was contacted and made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 59,060.

My 2017 Ford F-150 with SYNC 3 (software version 3.0, build 23219, the latest version Ford offers for this vehicle) has a recurring defect with hands-free phone calls. When a call comes in while my phone ([XXX]) is connected through Android Auto, the call displays as connected but there is no audio in either direction — I cannot hear the caller and the caller cannot hear me. Outgoing calls work normally. Ford's published workaround for this known defect is a setting ("Use Phone Ringtone"), but on my vehicle the setting will not stay selected — it reverts to the default every time the phone disconnects or the vehicle is shut off, so the failure returns on every trip. Ford fixed this defect in its newer SYNC 3.4 software, but has never made 3.4 available for 2017 vehicles, leaving no remedy. The truck is already on the final 3.0 build. This is a safety issue. Washington law prohibits holding a phone while driving, so a failed hands-free call pressures the driver to pick up and handle the phone. The vehicle's [XXX] Assist emergency feature also depends on SYNC maintaining a working phone connection, which this defect defeats. The dealer was contacted several times and informed the contact that the parts were on backorder. Due to the safety risk, the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the brake master cylinder was replaced at the owner's expense. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the repair and informed the contact that reimbursement was denied because parts were available.

My 2017 Ford F-150 is experiencing serious transmission issues that appear to be related to Safety Recall 26S28. The vehicle is shifting harshly, failing to shift properly, shifting only into 3rd and 5th gears, sometimes failing to engage 6th gear, and occasionally losing all power. A generic wrench warning appears on the dash with the message “See Service Manual.” A code reader also displays diagnostic trouble code P0722. I took my vehicle to Great Lakes Ford of Muskegon, where the dealership diagnosed the issue and confirmed that the lead frame needs to be replaced. The lead frame is the component addressed by this recall. However, the dealership stated that because the vehicle was not displaying a specific required code, they could not perform the repair under the recall. My vehicle is currently not drivable and is clearly exhibiting serious symptoms consistent with the issue addressed by the recall. Despite this, I have been told that I must pay approximately $1,500 out of pocket to repair a component that I believe should be covered under Ford’s recall. This issue presents a significant safety hazard. When the problem first occurred, I was making a left turn when my truck suddenly lost all power. I was nearly struck by oncoming traffic because I could not accelerate to complete the turn safely. Given the unpredictable shifting, loss of power, and other transmission issues described above, I do not believe this vehicle is safe to operate. My truck is currently at the dealership, and I am being asked to pay for a repair that appears to be directly related to the recall. I am requesting that NHTSA review this situation and determine whether Ford’s recall criteria are too restrictive if vehicles experiencing the same underlying defect are denied repairs solely because they do not register a specific diagnostic trouble code. I am concerned that this issue poses a serious safety risk to myself, other drivers, and affected vehicles should receive the necessary repairs

Hello. I recently went in for fords recall regarding 2015-2017 6R80 Transmissions and their limp mode and sudden downshift issues. I got the recall done July 31st (if memory serves) But the fix did not work. I came back in September 3rd to complain and ask them to diagnose and asked if they would fix it this time under the same recall. After 3 hours of waiting they said that my code “P0722-00” does not qualify for lead frame replacement nor did they attempt another fix. I believe this is entirely unprofessional and borderline dangerous. Not everyone can afford a 1200$ repair, especially not for something that should’ve been fixed under the recall. I’ve heard of other potential reports just like this one and wanted to make our voices known. This took place at the Ford dealership in Eden NC. (Tri city ford) But there is one major thing I’d like to add. The staff was extremely professional and welcoming and explained everything thoroughly, just simply nothing they could do at this level. I do not want anyone to be fired or anything like that. I simply want my truck to be safe to drive again, since they claim it can suddenly downshift and break the wheels lose. It is my only car.

SUPPLEMENTAL DEFECT REPORT ATTACHMENT Original NHTSA Complaint ID: [Case#11770807]/[Case #11772091] Vehicle suffered an identical uncommanded rear-wheel lockup and immediate drop to a low gear at highway speeds in October 2025. Kendall Ford replaced a Gateway Module rather than the transmission molded leadframe. The vehicle is now displaying active codes P0715 and P0717, which Ford Corporate is using to deny coverage under Recall 26S28. Ford is actively excluding P0715/P0717 input sensor codes from the recall, despite the component being physically identical and resulting in the exact same violent highway lockup hazard.
