Boat VIN Check & Vehicle History Report

Free VIN lookup for any used boat — title brands, accidents, odometer, and open recalls pulled from NMVTIS in seconds.

Paste the 17-character VIN to pull a full boat history report before you buy.

Boats use a Hull Identification Number (HIN) instead of the automotive VIN, but the principle is the same: a 12-character code that identifies the manufacturer, model year, and serial. A boat HIN lookup lets you verify title history, prior accidents, theft records, and U.S. Coast Guard recalls on any fiberglass or aluminum hull built after 1972.

Where is the VIN on a boat?

Every U.S.-built boat from 1972 onward carries the 12-character HIN stamped into the starboard (right-side) outer transom, just above the waterline. You will also find it on the title, registration, insurance card, and manufacturer certification sticker. A boat with a missing or recut HIN is almost certainly stolen or rebuilt — do not buy it.
