Range Flame may be Extinguished by Airflow

NHTSA #13V161000 · Equipment · NHTSA notice

Reported April 24, 2013 · Winnebago Industries, Inc

Potentially affected: 1,918 vehicles

Manufacturer campaign 128 · Owners notified May 20, 2013 · Vehicles built January 10, 2012 – April 5, 2013 (per NHTSA)

Defect description

Winnebago Industries is recalling certain model year 2012-2014 Minnie Winnie, Aspect, Sightseer, Adventurer, and Journey motorhomes; and model year 2012-2014 Itasca Spirit, Cambria, Sunova, Suncruiser, and Meridian motorhomes. The affected vehicles were manufactured January 10, 2012, through April 5, 2013 and may be missing a range enclosure.

Safety consequence

A missing range enclosure may allow the gas range flame to be extinguished due to air flow. In such a case, propane gas will continue to flow without a flame. If propane continues to flow, in the presence of an ignition source, it may suddenly combust resulting in a fire and/or personal injury.

Manufacturer remedy

Winnebago notify owners and dealers will install a range enclosure, free of charge. The safety recall began on May 20, 2013. Owners may contact Winnebago at 1-641-585-3535. Winnebago's recall campaign number is 128.

NHTSA #12V566000 · Electrical System · NHTSA notice

Reported December 6, 2012 · Winnebago Industries Inc.

Potentially affected: 1,521 vehicles

Owners notified December 26, 2012 · Vehicles built June 18, 2010 – November 17, 2011 (per NHTSA)

Defect description

Winnebago Industries is recalling certain model year 2010-2013 Winnebago Journey and Tour motorhomes, and certain model year 2010-2013 Itasca Meridian and Ellipse motorhomes, manufactured June 18, 2010, through November 17, 2011. The chassis are equipped with connectors for diode jumpers that may come loose, resulting in an open circuit. Two circuits are affected: The one that disengages the cruise control with brake pedal use, and the one that illuminates the brake lights with brake pedal use.

Safety consequence

Failure of the cruise control to disengage when the brakes are applied may increase the risk of a vehicle crash. Without the brake lights illuminating when the brakes are applied, the driver's intent is not communicated, increasing the risk of a crash.

Manufacturer remedy

Daimler Trucks North America will be conducting the recall on behalf of Winnebago Industries. Daimler will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the the diode jumpers to make sure they are fully locked in place and will correct the vehicles as needed. The recall began December 26, 2012.
