2006 Chevrolet Corvette mileage at failure

303 of the 365 complaints on file for the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette give the vehicle's mileage when the problem happened.

Mileage at failure by component, from owners' complaints to NHTSA
Exterior LightingMedian 85,000 milesMiddle half 65,000–105,000 milesBased on 57 complaints
StructureMedian 9,000 milesMiddle half 5,000–15,000 milesBased on 45 complaints
Fuel/Propulsion SystemMedian 50,000 milesMiddle half 35,000–70,000 milesBased on 36 complaints
Electrical SystemMedian 60,000 milesMiddle half 30,000–95,000 milesBased on 34 complaints
SteeringMedian 35,000 milesMiddle half 20,000–65,000 milesBased on 39 complaints
Electronic Stability Control (ESC)Median 25,000 milesMiddle half 15,000–40,000 milesBased on 37 complaints

A component's median is its 50th percentile, and its middle half runs from its 25th to its 75th percentile.

Owners give the mileage themselves, often as a round number, and NHTSA doesn't check it. A complaint that names several components counts under each one, and mileages that can't be right, such as 999,999, or 50 miles on a five-year-old car, are left out.

These figures describe the complaints owners filed. They don't predict when a particular vehicle will have a problem, and vehicles that never had one aren't counted.

NHTSA defect investigations

NHTSA's investigations file lists the 2006 Chevrolet Corvette in 4 investigations. A listed model year means only that an investigation names it; it says nothing about any particular vehicle. An open investigation is not a finding that a safety defect exists, and NHTSA can close one without a recall.

Loss of Low Beam Headlights

Reported May 14, 2014 · General Motors LLC

Potentially affected: 103,158 vehicles

Repair completion: 58.91% (latest rate the manufacturer reported to NHTSA; dataset updated November 3, 2026)

Manufacturer campaign 13146 · Owners notified January 2, 2015 · Vehicles built March 22, 2005 – June 26, 2006 (per NHTSA) · Recall influenced by NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation

Defect description

General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2005-2007 Chevrolet Corvette vehicles manufactured March 29, 2004, through June 22, 2007. In the affected vehicles, the underhood bussed electrical center (UBEC) housing can expand and cause the headlamp low beam relay control circuit wire to bend. If the wire is repeatedly bent, it may fracture causing a loss of low beam headlamp illumination.

Safety consequence

The loss of low beam headlamp illumination will decrease the driver's visibility, as well as the vehicle's conspicuity to other motorists, increasing the risk of a crash.

Manufacturer remedy

GM will notify owners, and dealers will install a jumper wire to correct this condition, free of charge. The recall began January 2, 2015. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GM's number for this recall is 13146. Note: Model year 2008-2013 Chevrolet Corvettes will be covered under customer satisfaction program number 14203 for the same issue.
