2022 Volvo XC60 Recalls & Complaints

Supplemental Restraining System (SRS) - - Airbags keeps producing yellow caution lights and red caution lights on dash, while displaying warnings - - " Drive to workshop SRS airbag Service urgent" and request "OK" acknowledgment. This happend onec in 2023 and atleast 4 different occurrences between January and now. With atleast two repair attempts by authorized Volvo dealership with assistance of Volvo technical support engineers.

This has happened multiple times, confirmed by the dealer that it is a know issue with no fix. While driving down the road, the digital dashboard goes completely blank. No speedometer, no fuel guage, nothing. Very dangerous when driving to not know the speed that you are travelling. Also, all audio cuts out - no blinker signal sounds, no radio, etc. Less concerning is the infotainment system going completely black and silent as well - radio, maps, climate control. There have been multiple recalls performed but the dealer but none of them has fixed the issue. This must be a MJAOR safety concern when the dash does completely blank while traveling 65mph down the highway.

On [XXX], at 82,371 miles, my daughter's 2022 Volvo XC60 T8 Recharge was diagnosed with DTC BECM-P0BBD92 (Hybrid/High Voltage Battery Pack Voltage Variation) and a confirmed Cell Module F failure (Repair Order #[XXX], Bob Penkhus Motor Co Volvo Cars, Colorado Springs, CO). The dealer instructed her not to charge the vehicle pending repair. The replacement part (Cell Module F, Part #36003341) has been on indefinite backorder since diagnosis — initially quoted at 6 weeks, still unavailable as of this report. This vehicle falls within NHTSA Recall 25V-179 (LG high-voltage battery modules, fire risk when fully charged and parked). NHTSA's VIN lookup shows this VIN as having no unrepaired recalls, which I believe reflects only a prior software-monitoring update rather than a physical hardware fix — this diagnosed cell failure occurred after that update, is consistent with the exact failure mode described in the recall, and cannot currently be repaired because the remedy part is unavailable. Volvo Cars USA opened and then closed a corporate case (#[XXX], closed June 19, 2026) declining further assistance, stating its only obligation is to repair the vehicle — which it cannot presently do. Component Failure & Inspection Availability: Infotainment Head Unit (IHU) / Audio Module (AUD) running Android Automotive OS. The vehicle and its components are available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: The audio system completely crashes approximately every 3 drive cycles. This failure disables all safety-critical audio features, including turn signal clicks, backup camera and parking sensor chimes, blind-spot/cross-traffic warning alerts, and emergency system tones. Operating the vehicle without audible turn signals or proximity chimes creates significant driver distraction and an immediate hazard to traffic safety. Dealer / Service Confirmation: The issue occurs intermittently during daily operation and is being reported to Volvo dealer service Prior Inspection: The vehicle has been inspected by Volvo service department Symptoms & Onset: The problem began following a recent Android Automotive OS software update. No warning lamps, error messages, or indicators appear prior to the failure. The entire audio bus shuts off either at vehicle start or mid-drive. The only temporary workaround is forcing an infotainment reboot by holding the center display home button for 20–30 seconds, but the complete audio failure recurs every few drive cycles.

The vehicle goes silent, no audio system, no driving alerts— turn signals, alerts etc. Only is fixed by a hard reset to the sound system happens multiple times a week sometimes multiple times a day. According to technicians, this is a known issue with no fix.

Turn signal audio not present (lights working. No audio from radio, phone , collision warnings rear cross traffic warnings, door ajar audio warnings. Resetting the display fixes the problem. However, the issue returns the next day.

The contact owned a 2020 Volvo XC60 II. The contact stated while reversing, the rear view camera displayed a black screen. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal was depressed, however the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The vehicle's speed independently accelerated. The contact's vehicle crashed into a parked vehicle. The contact stated that there were two additional occupants in the vehicle. The contact sustained pain in the right knee, no medical treatment was provided. The passenger, who was seated in the rear seat, sustained neck and upper back injuries. The passenger received medical treatment at the local medical center. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The failure was intermittent. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously taken to the dealer, however the failure was not duplicated. The contact later received a recall notification, NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V908000 (Back Over Prevention). The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000

After a software update to the infotainment system (Android Automotive OS version 5.1.17, installed on 06/03/2026), my 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 intermittently loses all audio output. When the failure occurs, the vehicle produces no sound of any kind: no audible rear parking/proximity sensor warning while in reverse, no turn-signal indicator tones, and no media audio. The rear-view camera image still displays normally, so the loss of the audible backup warning is not obvious to the driver — the parking-assist system appears functional while its audible warnings are in fact disabled. On multiple occasions the failure was already present as I backed out of my garage and began driving, leaving me with no audible obstacle warning while reversing and no turn-signal tones while maneuvering. The display, navigation, and camera continue to function while audio is dead, which indicates the audio service stops responding rather than a hardware fault. The only way to restore audio is to fully restart (reboot) the infotainment head unit; the failure then recurs intermittently. The fault began immediately after the 5.1.17 update and was sporadic at first. After noticing a pattern, I documented occurrences on 06/15/2026, 06/17/2026, and 06/20/2026 with timestamped photographs, which are available on request. No crash or injury has occurred, but the loss of audible backup-warning tones while reversing is a safety hazard, particularly for pedestrians or obstacles behind the vehicle. I am not aware of a current recall covering this issue and am requesting investigation.

Re: Demand for repurchase or replacement under warranty — VIN [XXX] Vehicle: 2022 Volvo XC60 (pre‑certified) Purchase date: 08/19/2024 Dealer: [Dealer name, [XXX] ] Dear Volvo Cars USA Customer Care: I am the owner of the above-referenced vehicle. Since the date of purchase (08/19/2024) the vehicle’s infotainment system has repeatedly failed: it shuts down and reboots frequently (as often as 10 times within one hour of normal driving). Each shutdown disables navigation, HVAC controls and Bluetooth, and on reboot I must reset settings. This defect creates a significant safety hazard while driving, especially in unfamiliar areas. Since purchase I have returned the vehicle to the dealer for diagnosis and repair on multiple occasions. The vehicle has received software updates approximately 3–4 times, most recently on05//05/2026. The problem persists. I have retained copies of all repair orders and service records documenting these visits. (Copies attached.) This recurring failure remains unresolved despite multiple repair attempts and continues to present a SERIOUS safety risk.
