The contact’s daughter owns a 2022 Jeep Compass. The contact’s daughter stated that while the vehicle was stopped at a stop sign, the vehicle lost automotive power. Due to the failure, the vehicle unexpectedly drifted into the intersection, into oncoming traffic, then drifted to the opposite side of the road. The vehicle was towed to a dealer. The contact was informed that the failure was associated with the battery; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 49,000.

My 2022 Jeep Compass is stalling when I break going downhill. I have had it scanned and it stored codes are P032F and P2172. The combustion engine producing insufficient torque and sudden high airflow detected. I believe its a ruptured brake booster diaphragm dumping unmetered air into the intake. NHTSA has a open investigation into Compasses stalling while driving and Im filling the complaint to request a goodwill repair.

I purchased my 2022 Jeep Compass Latitude FWD brand new on April 4, 2022, from AutoNation Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM Houston. Just eight days later, on April 12, 2022, I began reporting serious engine stalling and Auto Stop/Start malfunctions. The vehicle repeatedly shuts off in traffic and fails to restart automatically, requiring me to shift into Park, turn the vehicle off, and manually restart it. These incidents have occurred at traffic lights, on public roadways, and even on railroad tracks. On February 3, 2023, my vehicle shut off in traffic around 2:45 PM while I was picking up my niece and nephew from school. I was nearly rear-ended because the vehicle unexpectedly stopped operating. I immediately contacted the dealership and brought the vehicle in for inspection. The service department reportedly advised that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and kept it for further repairs. Despite numerous dealership visits, a complete transmission replacement in October 2022, and additional repairs in February 2023, the problem continued. On February 27, 2023, I notified Jeep Customer Care that the vehicle had stalled again shortly after being returned from repairs. Jeep/Stellantis has been aware of these safety concerns since 2022 through multiple dealership repair orders and Customer Care case #84688408. As of October 2026, the vehicle has approximately 63,773 miles. The Auto Stop/Start warning remains illuminated, and the vehicle has recently failed to start normally on two additional occasions. This is a recurring safety concern that has existed since the vehicle was brand new and has never been permanently resolved despite repeated manufacturer-authorized repairs. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this recurring engine stalling and restart failure as a potential vehicle safety defect.

In July 2026, I began receiving two warnings in sequence: (a) the airbags were not operating properly, and (b) the SOS call function was unavailable. Screenshots of both warnings are attached. It took several visits to a nearby dealership before the service department correctly identified and resolved the issue. I have attached both service reports: the initial report, which misidentified the problem, and the final report, which documents the correct root cause and repair. According to the final report, the warnings were caused by a short circuit in the airbag wiring. A broken metal wire from the driver’s seat support cage had pierced the wiring loom, causing the short circuit. Resolving the issue required replacing both the seat support cage and the wiring harness. I am attaching images of the broken cage and pierced wiring as a reference. I consider this a serious safety issue. As I understand the Jeep Compass user guide, an airbag warning light may indicate that the airbags could fail to deploy in an accident or deploy unexpectedly. Either outcome could result in severe injury or death. The simultaneous loss of the SOS call function further increased my safety concerns. I believe Jeep should take responsibility for investigating this failure, determine whether the metal wires in the seat support cage have a design or manufacturing weakness, and initiate a recall if warranted. I have retained the damaged cage and pierced wiring harness and am willing to provide them for investigation.

The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was a constant thumping sound coming from the steering column. The thumping sound occurred while turning in either direction and while driving straight. The vehicle was taken to an independent service center, where it was diagnosed that the steering rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was 37,420.

My car has 84,000 miles. Noticed steering issues along with noises. Several Jeep Compass have had same issues requiring pinion and rack to be replaced. It was coming loose and a safety issue. The car is original owner and maintained. Tech able to isolate both noises, one coming from the steering rack and the other from the front suspension. Noise when car is in motion is down to the front steering linkages connected to the rack and pinion being loose. Recommend replacing the rack and pinion, then performing the four wheel alignment. Play in the front sway bar links are responsible for the noise heard when turning at lower speeds or to parallel park. Recommend replacing links. I own a Jeep compass there has been a recall on Jeep Cherokee same issue Jeep Cherokee models have been involved in a recall related to the pinion shaft. Is this like the ford pinto issue people have to complain to have a recall. Apparently more people have on the Cherokee than compass. I have seen the reports and people have complained on compass yet nothing is being done. I have a video from the mechanic showing the issue it’s a safety issue. In all my years owning and maintaining cars I have never had a steering issue which is alarming.

There have been multiple instances where the engine has locked up in the middle of me driving (usually at stop lights) where the only fix is to completely shut the car off and on again which has resulted in me almost being in an accident. This poses an extreme safety risk.

automatic start-stop system causing actual engine stalls instead of a smooth restart is commonly triggered by failing auxiliary/main batteries, a dirty throttle body, or faulty charging sensors It has stalled on highway in stand still traffic. Issues with getting it to go. Have to turn off the car and restart. Has occurred 3 times - downtown of a major city in traffic, on a busy highway and at an exit of a highway. Due to its nature we are stand still as traffic is moving Problem has been confirmed by dealer and has occurred to other compass owners Not inspected by insurance There is an error that appears on the dash right before it stalls.

The contact owns a 2022 Jeep Compass. The contact stated that while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle unexpectedly stopped, and the transmission failed to shift gears in the middle of the road. The contact pulled over at the side of the road and attempted to reset the “Service Transmission” warning light. Additionally, while attempting to drive to the parents’ residence, the contact drove at a slower speed to prevent the failure from reoccurring. The dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 71,000.

I am filing a formal safety defect report regarding a severe, non-functional Advanced Passenger/Pedestrian Emergency Braking (PEB) and Forward Collision Warning (FCW) system that has been completely inoperable ("INOP") since delivery of this brand-new vehicle.The vehicle has been subjected to four (4) independent, consecutive service repair attempts at authorized franchise dealerships with a complete failure to resolve the active safety hazard.Critical Evidence of Manufacturer Negligence: Corporate Techline Admission: On 12/2/24 (3,327 miles), factory technicians performed module updates but noted on the official invoice: "Issue persist. Contact Techline was told update coming." Corporate engineering knowingly discharged a defective vehicle back into public operation without a functioning collision avoidance system.Star Engineering Admission: On 5/15/26 (34,461 miles), following extensive factory hardware resets via the wiTECH diagnostic network and manual sensor/camera recalibrations, the safety defect persisted. Stellantis Corporate Engineering (Star Agent) explicitly ordered the dealership techs to return the malfunctioning vehicle to the consumer because it lacked an active Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC), stating the safety hazard was merely "currently under investigation."Current Grounded Status: On 6/8/26 (approx 36,000 miles), Certified technicians determined an instrument cluster needed ordered and legally "grounded" the vehicle on the dealer lot due to federal odometer rules. The vehicle is currently sidelined awaiting a backordered instrument panel cluster (IPC). Public Safety Impact: Stellantis is willfully ignoring a widespread component or software defect in its integrated digital instrument cluster and forward-facing camera arrays. By ordering dealerships to return vehicles with dead pedestrian emergency braking systems to consumers due to a lack of DTC’s, they are creating an immediate, severe hazard to occupants and pedestrians on public roads
