The vehicle experienced a sudden component failure while driving, triggering immediate warning lights for the Integrated Motor Assist (IMA), high-voltage battery system, and braking system. The failure of the Motor Power Inverter (MPI) causes an abrupt loss of hybrid electric propulsion, a loss of the high-voltage battery charging system, and poses an immediate risk of engine stalling or a sudden drop in vehicle power while traveling at highway speeds. This creates a severe, unpredictable safety hazard to the occupants and surrounding traffic. Honda is fully aware of this systemic manufacturing flaw. The company issued a 15-year / 150,000-mile warranty extension under Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 20- 030 to address defective internal solder joints within the intelligent inverter unit that cause electrical shorts. Despite my vehicle suffering from the exact component failure detailed in the TSB, and despite the vehicle being well under the 150,000-mile threshold, American Honda is refusing to cover the safety-critical repair based strictly on a narrow VIN list exclusion. Because this component defect causes unpredictable electrical and propulsion failure on active roadways, I am filing this complaint to request an investigation into VIN omission for this known hazard.

The contact owns a 2015 Honda Civic. The contact had experienced intermittent power steering assist failure, causing the steering wheel to lock up while driving at various speeds. The contact stated that after the failure, the vehicle failed to restart, and the "Air Bag" warning light illuminated. The vehicle has been taken to a dealer for inspection on several occasions; however, the technicians were unable to diagnose or duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

The contact owns a 2015 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. An independent mechanic diagnosed the vehicle with transmission failure. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V574000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 147,366.

Incident: November 17, 2021 · Filed: May 31, 2026

The component that failed is the paint on my Honda Civic. It is white and peeling/flaking under normal use. It has been occurring for a long time and is coming off of my whole car. It is causing safety issues by being exposed to the lead paint dust and chips which will cause future health problems. It is exposing bare metal to rust on my car. The white paint is continuing to peel and is a heavy concern.

The contact owns a 2015 Honda Civic Sedan. The contact stated while stopped at red light , another crashed into the read end of her vehicle. The contact stated that no air bags were deployed. The contact stated that she sustained whiplash and injuries to the right rib and mild concession. No medical attention was required. The contact mention she able to drive the emergency room from the scene. The contact stated that a police report was hot filed. The vehicle was driven to a collision center. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 127,897.

The ABS system failed and the car crashed and when the ABS system failed the airbag light came on but airbags did not deploy in significant front end collision

I had purchased the vehicle from a private seller. It had an SRS light on at the time I purchased it. The code reader indicated high resistance to the driver airbag. While trying to change the clock spring, I removed the drivers airbag from the steering wheel and found that the wires to the airbag were cut and the wires from the harness were connected to two black blocks. A google search said that these blocks were most likely emulators. I don’t know for sure but they were certainly put there intentionally by someone and my airbag was entirely disconnected except for the green ground wire.

The contact owns a 2015 Honda Civic. The contact stated that while his wife was driving approximately 35-40 MPH, the vehicle started shuddering. The driver pulled over to the side of the road and parked the vehicle. Upon shifting to drive(D) or to reverse(R), the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V574000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 131,603.

Incident: October 1, 2025 · Filed: March 18, 2026

Vehicle battery drains while vehicle not in use. Have replaced the battery twice, and replaced alternator. Problem persists. When this began, it coincided with the car's door lock feature unlocking the vehicle upon approach, within about five feet, without pressing the fob. Also, if locking the vehicle if not about five feet away, it will lock and immediately unlock itself. I've seen many owners posting about identical issues, and no one seems to know how to fix the problem.
