Momentary Power Loss to the EXC Timer

Defect description

Wheeled Coach Industries (Wheeled Coach) is recalling certain model year 2010 M2, 2013-2014 T1, T2, and T3, and 2014 Terrastar ambulances, equipped with ECX Timer part number EL00230 manufactured by ECX Electronics Corporation. The ECX timer may experience a momentary loss of power when starting the vehicle.

Safety consequence

The momentary loss of power may cause the ECX timer to begin a five minute countdown, after which the timer would disconnect the power supplied to the electrical systems in the patient area of the vehicle, increasing the risk of injury to the occupants.

Manufacturer remedy

Wheeled Coach will notify owners, and dealers will update the timer software, free of charge. Owners may contact Wheeled Coach at 1-800-628-8178.

DURING A DEMONSTRATION OF THE OPERATION OF A STRYKER POWER PRO XT AND POWER COT LOADING SYSTEM, IT WAS NOTED THAT THE TWO OPPOSING PAWLS THAT SPREAD APART AND LOCK THE FOOT OF THE COT TO THE MAIN RAIL OF THE SYSTEM, WHICH IN TURN IS FASTENED TO THE FLOOR OF THE AMBULANCE, WERE NOT ENGAGING. IN A CRASH THIS WOULD ALLOW THE FOOT OF THE COT TO SWING OR FALL (IF INVERTED). THIS IN TURN COULD MEAN A SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH FOR THE ATTENDANT OR PATIENT. AFTER PULLING UP AND DOWN AND SIDE TO SIDE ON THE COT ENGAGEMENT OF THE LOCK WAS SUCCESSFUL.
