We drove about 20 miles this past Saturday and parked the car. It was the 3rd time we had stopped and parked. We went into a house to potentially purchase and when returned we started the car and put it in reverse and it would not move. The screen read low power mode and would not move. The front passenger side wheel was turned to the far right and tilted. When putting it drive the wheel would straighten , but when putting in reverse it would do the same thing. Car was towed to the Nissan dealer and told the tie rod was broken.

The 12V battery failed and it smelled like rotten eggs releasing toxic fumes. I've been researching this is a common issue on the nissan ariya 2023.

On [XXX], my vehicle experienced a severe malfunction while charging at an EVgo station located at the [XXX] shopping center on the Olson 350kW charger. Upon attempting to operate the vehicle after the charging session, the "EV System Off" warning triggered, causing a total failure of the vehicle to engage its powertrain. Mind you, the charge got the vehicle to 96%. A subsequent inspection revealed that the vehicle's original 12V auxiliary battery had dropped to a critically low 10 V while the car itself remained at 96%. Even after jumpstarting the car and completely replacing the failed unit with a brand new battery from AutoZone, the persistent error message remained, indicating a deeper malfunction within the high-voltage power distribution system (such as the battery junction box, contactors, or inverter software control) induced during the high-power charging session. The vehicle and its components are available for inspection upon request. This failure put my safety and the safety of others at risk because it left the vehicle completely immobilized and stranded at a high-voltage charging stall in a busy public shopping center, creating a hazardous obstruction and exposing me to active traffic within the parking facility. The problem has since been confirmed by an authorized service provider, as the vehicle had to be towed directly to the Mossy Nissan dealership here in Houston for diagnostic testing. Aside from the dealership, the vehicle has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer's corporate investigators, police, or insurance representatives. Prior to the complete failure, there were no advance symptoms; the "EV System Off" warning lamp and message appeared suddenly on the dashboard today immediately after disconnecting from the charger. Following a manufacturer-authorized warranty repair on the reduction gear, the front subframe and suspension mounting hardware were left unsecured. An authorized Nissan dealership inspected the vehicle, reproduced the issue, and officially confirmed that these critical structural components are loose. The vehicle exhibits severe mechanical clunking and knocking noises, which began immediately after the initial repair. Operating the vehicle with a loose subframe creates an imminent risk of component separation or sudden loss of steering control. The vehicle is fully intact and available for immediate inspection upon request.

My Nissan Ariya has an abnormal, high-pitched, cicada-like noise during acceleration. The noise appears to be associated with the electric propulsion system, electric motor, reduction gear, or another related drivetrain component, although the exact source has not been diagnosed. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request, and I can demonstrate the noise under the conditions in which it occurs. The abnormal noise raises concern about a potential defect in the vehicle’s electric propulsion or drivetrain system. If the noise is caused by a failing component, the underlying issue could potentially worsen and affect vehicle operation while driving. This is particularly concerning during acceleration in traffic, where reliable and predictable vehicle performance is important. I am reporting the issue so that it can be investigated to determine whether it presents a safety risk. The vehicle was presented to a dealer for evaluation. The abnormal noise was reproduced during the inspection. However, technician claimed that this noise is normal in electric vehicles. To date, the vehicle has been inspected by Gerald Nissan of Naperville. No formal determination of the cause of the noise has been provided. I am submitting this complaint to request further investigation into the potential defect. I have not observed any warning lights or dashboard messages associated with this issue. The primary symptom is an abnormal, high-pitched, cicada-like noise that occurs during acceleration. I first noticed the issue around XXX at approximately 25K miles. The noise persisted ever since.

My 2023 Nissan Ariya was making a cicada/whining sound under low acceleration. This was found by my local Nissan dealer to be a defect with the reduction gear. The dealership replaced the reduction gear under the powertrain warranty. This issue was present at just under 50,000 miles. Without replacement, the component could fail entirely leading to a total loss of power to the wheels, posing a safety risk while driving. There were no warning lamps on or any indication of a failing component other than the sound getting gradually louder. It took some research to figure out if the sound was normal or not. If I had not researched and inquired with my dealer, the problem would have gone unchecked and put me in danger of losing power while driving.

A 2023 Nissan Ariya developed a grinding/noise condition. An initial dealership repair did not correct it. The vehicle was promptly returned. Subsequent diagnosis involved the traction-motor/drivetrain area, and Nissan ultimately authorized substantial warranty work involving replacement/repair of the traction motor and associated components. The vehicle remained out of service for an extended period while additional leakage was reportedly identified.

The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Ariya. The contact stated that while driving 75 MPH and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle failed to respond and lost automotive power. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road, restarted the vehicle, and continued driving. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed; however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V657000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 21,000.

I am filing a safety complaint regarding my 2023 Nissan Ariya involving an apparent failure of the 12-volt battery and/or electrical system. While parked overnight in my driveway, powered off, and not plugged in nor charging, the front battery/engine compartment began sizzling, overheating, and producing smoke. The heat caused internal damage and disabled the vehicle. This created a serious fire risk because the incident occurred at my home while the vehicle was unattended and inactive and it happened without any earlier signs or warning. My battery health was checked by the repair shop at the dealership within the last 5 months. The malfunction could have caused a vehicle or house fire and endangered nearby occupants and property. The vehicle is currently at King Windward Nissan in Hawai‘i for inspection and repairs, and a Nissan Consumer Affairs case has been opened. Anecdotally, I have heard from 4 other Nissan Ariya owners in Hawai'i who have experienced similar battery failures with their Nissan Ariyas within the first two-years of purchase.
