Incorrectly Routed Hydraulic Lines

Defect description

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2014-2018 Precept motorhomes built on Ford F53 chassis. The hydraulic lines may have been incorrectly routed too close to the exhaust without a heat shield.

Safety consequence

Incorrect routing of the hydraulic line can cause the line to melt from the exhaust heat, resulting in a loss of braking, increasing the risk of a crash or fire.

Manufacturer remedy

Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and correct the hydraulic line routing as necessary and install a heat shield, free of charge. The recall began November 14, 2019. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-517-9137. Jayco's number for this recall is 9903440.

Defect description

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain 2014-2019 Precept, 2016-2019 Alante and 2019 Precept Prestige motorhomes built on a Ford F53 chassis. The blower motor electrical circuit may be missing the 25amp fuse, possibly resulting in overheating of the wiring.

Safety consequence

If the wiring in the circuit overheats, it can increase the risk of fire.

Manufacturer remedy

Jayco has notified owners, and dealers will install a 25amp fuse, free of charge. The recall began April 16, 2019. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-517-9137. Jayco's number for this recall is 9903432.

Fire Extinguisher May Be Clogged or Inoperable

Defect description

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling various 2002-2016 recreational vehicles equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V746-9524.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. Safety consequence

In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.

Manufacturer remedy

Jayco will notify owners, instructing them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2018. Defect description

Jayco, Inc. (Jayco) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Precept motorhomes manufactured January 3, 2013, to July 14, 2014. Due to the routing and inadequate protection of the wiring for the driver's and passenger's electric seats, the wires may get damaged by the seats moving up and down, and back and forth.

Safety consequence

Damaged wires may short, increasing the risk of a fire.

Manufacturer remedy

Jayco will notify owners, and dealers will reroute the electric seat wires and install an additional 10 amp circuit breaker, free of charge. The recall began in September 2014. Owners may contact Jayco customer service at 1-800-283-8267.

Wipers not working and no replacement part made anymore. My wiper relay module went bad and the wipers are not working. I contacted Jayco and was told to order a aftermarket harness and modify it. No servicing dealer will do this for me, making the rv a unsafe to drive in rain conditions. This is a big issue that I can't imagine I'm the only one with this issue. They had a recall on later models for a similar issue.

MY HIGH BEAMS WERE ON OUR ENTIRE DRIVE AND I NEVER HAD ONE PASSING VEHICLE IN THE OPPOSING LANE FLASH AT ME. WHEN I LOOKED INSIDE THE HOOD TO SEE IF I COULD MAKE AN ADJUSTMENT, MY HEAD SPUN. THE CONTRAPTION THAT HOLDS THE HEAD LIGHTS IN PLACE DIDN'T MAKE FOR AN EASY ADJUSTMENT. I DID WHAT I COULD, BUT IT BARELY MADE A DIFFERENCE. I PULLED INTO A FORD DEALERSHIP AT MY EARLIEST CONVENIENCE. WE WERE TOLD IT WAS A JAYCO ISSUE. I EVENTUALLY GOT HOME TO CONNECTICUT FROM WYOMING DOING THE BEST WE COULD TO AVOID DRIVING AT NIGHT. WE DROPPED OFF THE COACH AT THE JAYCO DEALERSHIP AND ASKED THEM TO FIX THE HEADLIGHTS. WHEN PICKING UP THE COACH, IT WAS EXPLAINED TO US THAT JAYCO WILL NOT FIX THE HEADLIGHT ISSUE. THE SERVICE MANAGER EXPLAINED THAT HE HIMSELF IS AWARE OF MULTIPLE CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS WITH THIS MODEL FROM HIS DEALERSHIP ALONE. HE SAID THAT JAYCO IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND THEY WILL NOT ADDRESS IT OTHER THAT ASKING THE TECHS TO DO THE BEST THEY CAN TO FIX THEM. IN SPEAKING WITH THE TECH THAT WORKED ON MY PRECEPT, HE SAID THAT HE DID THE BEST HE COULD, BUT THEY COULDN'T BRING THEM TO ANYWHERE CLOSE TO WHERE THEY NEED TO BE. MY WIFE SENT AN EMAIL ABOUT THIS AND SEVERAL OTHER ISSUES WE HAD ON OUR TRIP TO YOU BACK ON 10/19 AND HAS ONLY RECEIVED THE AUTOMATED RESPONSE THANKING HER FOR HER INQUIRY AND THAT YOU WOULD BE CONTACTING US SHORTLY. WE'VE YET TO RECEIVE ANY RESPONSE.
