2020 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Recalls & Complaints

The ground-wire sleeve in the front-left wheel well is intended to protect the copper wire beneath it. However, the fabric-braided sleeve can deteriorate after years of exposure to the elements, leaving the wire vulnerable to corrosion and shorting. In my case, this caused white smoke to come from the front-left wheel well and left the vehicle inoperable after a complete electrical failure. The vehicle could not be shifted into neutral for conventional towing. It had to be transported using a wheel lift and dolly, equipment that can be difficult to find. I was stranded for hours at night. A mobile mechanic inspected the vehicle, showed me the burnt wiring harness in the front wheel well, and advised me to arrange a wheel lift and dolly. I researched whether other owners had experienced the same problem and found reports from numerous Alfa Romeo owners involving 2017–2022 vehicles. The shot wire damages the rest of the connected wires also. Owners report that Alfa Romeo changed the sleeve’s design and material in 2023, but did not issue a recall to address the earlier issue. This failure can leave owners stranded and may lead to repair and towing costs of thousands of dollars. Car stalled/ went into limp mode 4 separate times for fuel pressure issue. Is not drivable, does not accelerate, throws erroneous error codes. The recall Y91 covers this issue for 2020 Stelvio. When I contact Mopar they say it is not open on my vin. How is this possible?

Engine light came on. I was told by the first dealership that the coolant was mixing with the engine oil. There was also a vehicle at the shop there for the same issue. after doing some research online, it appears that this is a bigger issue. I bought the car at 20,000 miles and this began happening around 52000 miles. Given the low mileage, this is something that should not be happening to a newer car.

The contact owns a 2020 Alfa Romeo Stelvio. The contact stated that while driving on two occasions at undisclosed speeds, the check engine, oil, and the Automatic START/STOP System Unavailable warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer twice; however, on the first occasion, the failure was not duplicated. During the second visit, the contact was informed that the coolant was mixing into the engine oil, which caused the engine failure. The contact was informed that several unstated parts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 44,000.

Back in December 2025 my engine light had come on, upon bringing it to the dealership I had found out that the engine oil and the coolant were mixing. A repair was done to stop this from happening three months later the same issue happened only the previous dealership was no longer servicing Alpha Romeos so I brought it to the only dealer left a mass. I was told that they botched the repair at the previous dealer. Now, three months later from then my engine light is back on again and the same thing is happening. but since neither truly actually repaired the issue now, I’m being told that there’s an issue with my engine. From the beginning when I first brought it to the dealership, this was not an issue. I was actually told that the engine was not misfiring at all, and the engine appeared to be good.My car was not the only one there for this issue so clearly this is a known issue. I also began looking online and realized that there are a lot of people that have this issue so I did bring it to Alfa Romeo‘s attention I feel like at this point the dealerships are making it worse because they’re not fixing the actual issue. I’m also being told this time around that, it was only a temporary fix which I was never told the first two times that they fixed it. No vehicle with 50,000 miles should be having these types of issues. I feel like there is a bigger issue that needs to be addressed within the manufacturer.

The contact owns a 2020 Alfa Romeo Stelvio. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the vehicle became inoperable and failed to start with no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the ground strap had failed due to corrosion and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer informed the contact that if the corrosion had not been repaired in time, it could have caused a more severe vehicle failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.

Ground strap is faulty. I have owned the vehicle for less than 2 years and am already on my 4th battery because the ground strap keeps draining it. The dealership is finally replacing the ground strap under my warranty but on several occasions I have been left essentially stranded away from home because the vehicle was acting completely fine then will randomly not start due to the faulty ground strap not allowing the alternator to actually charge the battery. Every time this happens it has to go to the dealership because it cannot be jumped and all the lights in the dash come on and need to be reset. This failure happens at random and no lights ever come on in the dash as a warning before it happens. The warranty also will not cover the battery even though it’s being drained due to the faulty strap and I must pay almost $900 for the dealership to install a new one.

The failure was intermittent. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a fuel system failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.

The vehicle suddenly loss power while I was driving on a busy interstate. I was almost rear-ended by the vehicle behind me. I had to coast my vehicle to the shoulder of the road crossing lanes of traffic without power! It was terrifying. I could have been wrecked our worse! The check engine lights flashed on saying: "Service Electronic Throttle Control" and "Start / Stop unavailable". I took the car to get it checked out and I was told that this is a common problem currently under recall for the 2018 models, but not my 2020. The mechanic says the scanner code is P008A, a fuel system problem which is likely a faulty fuel pump.

While driving at approximately 40 mph, my Alfa Romeo Stelvio suddenly lost all power without warning. The vehicle went from operating normally to immediately illuminating multiple warning lights on the dashboard. I was unable to accelerate and nearly struck by another vehicle due to the sudden loss of power. I had to coast to the side of the road and have the vehicle towed to a repair shop. Upon inspection, it was determined that the fuel pump had failed. I was informed by the technicians that this is a common issue in Alfa Romeo’s and that the previous two model years have already had fuel pump–related recalls. This sudden failure created a serious safety hazard and appears to be part of an ongoing pattern.
